Eliminating Distractions Helps Sonit Sai Reddy Vasipalli from Aakash Institute, Bangalore Scores705 in NEET UG 2021; Secures AIR 56

●       Sonit who secured AIR 56 credited Aakash Institute’s structured and streamlined coaching sessions for his success

Bengaluru, November 02, 2021: The easiest way to win distractions is to eliminate them was the success mantra for Sonit Sai Reddy Vasipalli, a student of Aakash Institute in Bangalore, who obtained AIR 56 with a score of 705 out of 720 in NEET UG 2021.

One of the things he did, as he was preparing for NEET during the lockdown, was to make sure that there was no smartphone around him. “When you have a phone next to you, it is very hard not to check it. It is not about you or anybody else. It is quite natural,” he feels. The mobile phone he was using for accessing video lectures and other study materials did not have any social media app. “These apps were designed to suck you in and kick you out of your focus,” he reasons. To be 100% fool proof, he even made an arrangement of not knowing the password of the smartphone – every time he had to use it, he explained why he needed it to his mother and asked her to unlock it.

When it came to subjects, it was not easy for Sonit to decide on whether to pursue Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Physics, Chemistry, Maths. He was happy learning both till Class IX. But he realised that he had to make a decision soon, if he were to score high in a competitive exam. Sonit chose the former as he started developing a liking for biology. His mother, who was working as a biochemist and who quit her job to be available for Sonit and his younger sister, helped him make the right decision.

Though Sonit could save time as he did not have to travel to the centre for his classes and tests during the lockdown, he did not know how to use it. He says: “Here is where Aakash came into the picture. The institute had introduced a structure to his preparations from the beginning till the end. It gave me resources like NCERT Maps, diagrams, and formula books. I got new perspectives of the same subject. I did not feel bored.”

His mother pointed out that the staff from Aakash called her quite often to make sure that Sonit was not following his schedule and was not facing any difficulties with his preparations during the lockdown. 

Sonit found physics extremely interesting, but he was comparatively weak in organic chemistry. He read over and over again but he could not make much progress. So he tried new ways of conquering the subject. One of them was listening to explanations from Aakash’s staff and writing short notes. With time, he was making progress. Sonit’s future goal is to realise his potential and make a difference to the society in whatever way possible. He is looking forward to joining a reputed medical college.

In his comments about Sonit’s achievement,Mr Aakash Chaudhry, Managing Director, Aakash Educational Services Limited, said, “One thing so special about Sonit is that the moment he knows that he has a potential in something, he makes all the efforts to achieve his full potential. Shield your eyes the right way to enjoy the glow of Diwali festivities

Every year during Diwali, hospitals see considerable increase in cases of firework injuries
Lack of awareness on safety for lighting crackers and not using protective eye gear are responsible for the majority of these injuries.

Bangalore / November 1, 2021: Fireworks are used worldwide to express festivity and cheer especially in India during Diwali.But if the fireworks are not handled under supervision or guidance it could lead to injury to skin and eyes. These eye injuries can cause serious and irreparable damage to vision. Every year during Diwali, hospitals notice several fold increases in firework injuries. Lack of awareness on safety for lighting crackers and not using protective eye gear are responsible for the majority of these injuries. Most susceptible to injuries during Diwali are members of the pediatric age group who are not under the supervision of responsible adults.

“Firework injuries are responsible for a large number of ocular injuries. Generally, patients complain of a foreign body sensation, ocular pain, reduced vision, redness, tearing and photosensitivity or photophobia. The most common injuries include hyphema, eyelid injuries, traumatic iridodialysis, retinal detachment and corneal abrasion,” said Dr Venkatesh Babu, Consultant, Ophthalmologist, Dr. Agarwal’s Eye Hospital Bengaluru

Fireworks can also cause lid and ocular surface chemical and thermal burns. This in turn can lead to corneal opacity and blindness. Sometimes it causes globe perforation and intra ocular foreign bodies in the eye due to projectile injuries. This can lead to irreversible loss of vision, added Dr Venkatesh Babu.

Therefore, this Diwali, it is imperative that one uses protective eye gear while bursting crackers and while children should actually not be allowed to burst crackers at all, if they have to, they must do so under strict parental supervision.

“Ideally fireworks should be set off outdoors in a clear area, away from houses, dry leaves or grass or other flammable materials. One should always keep a bucket of water nearby for emergencies and for pouring over fireworks that fail to ignite or explode. Never light fireworks in a container, especially a glass or metal container and never try to relight or handle malfunctioning fireworks. Just soak them in water and dispose safely. Even spectators can be at risk so it is advised that safety instructions be followed and fireworks be viewed from at least 500 feet away,” said Dr Venkatesh Babu.

Further, projectile fireworks, like rockets and bombs, which are responsible for the majority of injuries, should be strictly avoided. Even the seemingly harmless sparkler fireworks can be dangerous, as they burn at more 1093 degrees celsius, therefore sparkler mishaps have also been known to create serious eye injuries and even death.

Don’t use any eye drops without doctor’s advice.
Don’t rub your eyes
Don’t rinse your eyes
Don’t apply pressure
Don’t remove any objects that are stuck in the eye.

ಪತ್ರಿಕಾಗೋಷ್ಠಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಈ ಕುರಿತು ಅವರು ಮಾತನಾಡಿದರು. ಕಾರ್ನಿಯಾದ ಮುಂದಿನ ಮತ್ತು ಹಿಂದಿನ ಪದರಗಳನ್ನು ಬೇರ್ಪಡಿಸುವ (ಸ್ಲೈಸ್) ಮೂಲಕ ಪ್ರತಿ ಕಣ್ಣಿನಿಂದ ತಲಾ ಎರಡು ರೋಗಿಗಳಿಗೆ ಚಿಕಿತ್ಸೆ ನೀಡಲು ನಾವು ಬಳಸಿದ್ದೇವೆ ಎಂದು ಅವರು ವಿವರಿಸಿದರು.

ಮೇಲ್ಪದರದ ಕಾರ್ನಿಯಲ್ ಕಾಯಿಲೆ ಇರುವ ಇಬ್ಬರು ರೋಗಿಗಳಿಗೆ ಮೇಲ್ಪದರವನ್ನು ಕಸಿ ಮಾಡಲಾಯಿತು ಮತ್ತು ಆಳವಾದ ಪದರವನ್ನು ಮಾತ್ರ ಎಂಡೋಥೀಲಿಯಲ್ ಅಥವಾ ಆಳವಾದ ಕಾರ್ನಿಯಲ್ ಲೇಯರ್ ಕಾಯಿಲೆ ಇರುವ ರೋಗಿಗಳಿಗೆ ಕಸಿಮಾಡಲಾಯಿತು. ಆದ್ದರಿಂದ, ನಾಲ್ಕು ವಿಭಿನ್ನ ರೋಗಿಗಳಿಗೆ ದೃಷ್ಟಿ ಪುನಃಸ್ಥಾಪಿಸಲು ನಾವು ಎರಡು ಕಾರ್ನಿಯಾಗಳಿಂದ ನಾಲ್ಕು ವಿಭಿನ್ನ ಕಸಿಗಳನ್ನು ಮಾಡಿದ್ದೇವೆ. ಈ ರೀತಿ ಒಂದೇ ದಿನ ಒಬ್ಬರ ಕಣ್ಣನ್ನು ನಾಲ್ವರಿಗೆ ಕಸಿ ಮಾಡಿರುವುದು ಇದೇ ಮೊದಲು ಎಂದು ಭುಜಂಗ ಶೆಟ್ಟಿ ತಿಳಿಸಿದರು.

ಲ್ಯಾಮೆಲ್ಲರ್ ಕೆರಾಟೊಪ್ಲ್ಯಾಸ್ಟಿಯ ಕಾರ್ಯವಿಧಾನ ಎರಡು ವಿಭಿನ್ನ ತಂತ್ರಗಳಿಂದ ಕೂಡಿದೆ.

  1. ಡೀಪ್ ಆಂಟೀರಿಯರ್ ಲ್ಯಾಮೆಲ್ಲರ್ ಕೆರಾಟೊಪ್ಲ್ಯಾಸ್ಟಿ (DALK) – ಕಾರ್ನಿಯಾದ ಹೊರ ಅಥವಾ ಬಾಹ್ಯ ಭಾಗವನ್ನು ಕಾರ್ನಿಯಲ್ ಡಿಸ್ಟ್ರೋಫಿ ಮತ್ತು ಕೆರಾಟೋಕೊನಸ್ ಹೊಂದಿರುವ ಇಬ್ಬರು ಯುವ ರೋಗಿಗಳಿಗೆ ಕಸಿ ಮಾಡಲಾಗಿದೆ. ಈ ಎರಡೂ ಪರಿಸ್ಥಿತಿಗಳು ಪ್ರಧಾನವಾಗಿ ಕಾರ್ನಿಯಾದ ಮೇಲ್ಮೈ ಪದರದ ಮೇಲೆ ಪರಿಣಾಮ ಬೀರುತ್ತವೆ, ಆದರೆ ಕಣ್ಣಿನ ಆಳವಾದ ಭಾಗವು ಸಾಮಾನ್ಯವಾಗಿದೆ. ಆದ್ದರಿಂದ, ಮೇಲಿನ ಭಾಗವನ್ನು ಮಾತ್ರ ಬದಲಾಯಿಸಲಾಯಿತು ಮತ್ತು ರೋಗಿಯ ಎಂಡೋಥೀಲಿಯಂ ಅನ್ನು ಉಳಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳಲಾಯಿತು. ಇದು ಕಸಿಯನ್ನು ತಿರಸ್ಕರಿಸುವ ಸಾಧ್ಯತೆಯನ್ನು ಬಹಳವಾಗಿ ಕಡಿಮೆ ಮಾಡುತ್ತದೆ ಎಂದು ಅವರು ವಿವರಿಸಿದರು.
  2. ಡೆಸ್ಸೆಮೆಟ್‌ನ ಸ್ಟ್ರಿಪ್ಪಿಂಗ್ ಎಂಡೋಥೆಲಿಯಲ್ ಕೆರಾಟೊಪ್ಲ್ಯಾಸ್ಟಿ (DSEK) – ಕಾರ್ನಿಯಾದ ಒಳ ಅಥವಾ ಆಳವಾದ ಪದರವನ್ನು ಕಾರ್ನಿಯಾದ ಒಳಗಿನ ಪದರದ ಮೇಲೆ ಪರಿಣಾಮ ಬೀರುವ ಕಾರ್ನಿಯಲ್ ಎಂಡೋಥೀಲಿಯಲ್ ಡಿಕಂಪೆನ್ಸೇಶನ್ ಹೊಂದಿರುವ ಇಬ್ಬರು ರೋಗಿಗಳಿಗೆ ಕಸಿ ಮಾಡಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಈ ಕಾರ್ಯವಿಧಾನದಲ್ಲಿ, ಎಂಡೋಥೀಲಿಯಂ ಅನ್ನು ಮಾತ್ರ ಬದಲಾಯಿಸಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ ಮತ್ತು ಸಾಮಾನ್ಯವಾಗಿ ಸಣ್ಣ ಛೇದನ ಮತ್ತು ಕೆಲವು ಹೊಲಿಗೆಗಳೊಂದಿಗೆ ಮಾಡಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಪೂರ್ಣ ಕಾರ್ನಿಯಾ ಕಸಿ ಮಾಡುವ ಅಗತ್ಯವಿರುವುದಿಲ್ಲ. ರೋಗಿಗೆ ಹೆಚ್ಚು ಆರಾಮದಾಯಕ ಮತ್ತು ವೇಗವಾಗಿ ಚೇತರಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳಲು ಅವಕಾಶವಾಗುತ್ತದೆ ಎಂದರು.

ಇದಲ್ಲದೆ, ಕಸಿ ಮಾಡಲು ಬಳಸದ ಲಿಂಬಲ್ ರಿಮ್ (ಕಾರ್ನಿಯಾದ ಸುತ್ತಳತೆಯ ಬಳಿ ಕಣ್ಣಿನ ಬಿಳಿ ಭಾಗ) ಅನ್ನು ಲಿಂಬಾಲ್ ಸ್ಟೆಮ್ ಸೆಲ್ ಹೊಂದಿರುವ ರೋಗಿಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಬಳಕೆಗಾಗಿ ‘ಇಂಡ್ಯೂಸ್ಡ್ ಪ್ಲುರಿಪೊಟೆಂಟ್ ಸ್ಟೆಮ್ ಸೆಲ್’ಗಳನ್ನು ಉತ್ಪಾದಿಸಲು ನಮ್ಮ ಪ್ರಯೋಗಾಲಯಕ್ಕೆ ಕಳುಹಿಸಲಾಗಿದೆ. ರಾಸಾಯನಿಕ ಗಾಯಗಳು ಆಸಿಡ್ ಬರ್ನ್ಸ್ ಮತ್ತು ಇತರ ಗಂಭೀರ ಅಸ್ವಸ್ಥತೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಇದನ್ನು ಬಳಕೆ ಮಾಡಲು ಸಾಧ್ಯವಿದೆ ಎಂದೂ ಅವರು ಹೇಳಿದರು.

ಡಾ.ರೋಹಿತ್ ಶೆಟ್ಟಿ ಅವರ ನೇತೃತ್ವದಲ್ಲಿ ಡಾ.ಯತೀಶ್ ಶಿವಣ್ಣ, ಡಾ.ಶರೋನ್ ಡಿಸೋಜಾ ಮತ್ತು ಡಾ.ಹರ್ಷ ನಾಗರಾಜ್ ಅವರು ಶಸ್ತ್ರಚಿಕಿತ್ಸೆಗಳನ್ನು ನಡೆಸಿದರು ಮತ್ತು ಇವರಿಗೆ ಕಾರ್ನಿಯಾ ತಂಡದ ಡಾ.ಗೈರಿಕ್ ಕುಂದು ಮತ್ತು ಶ್ರೀ ವೀರೇಶ್ ನೆರವು ನೀಡಿದರು. ಇಂತಹ ಸಂಕಷ್ಟದ ಸಂದರ್ಭದಲ್ಲೂ ಕಣ್ಣಿನ ದಾನ ಮಾಡಿದ ಡಾ.ರಾಜಕುಮಾರ ಕುಟುಬ ವರ್ಗಕ್ಕೆ ನಾವು ತುಂಬಾ ಧನ್ಯವಾದಗಳನ್ನು ಸಲ್ಲಿಸುತ್ತೇವೆ ಎಂದರು.

Announcing the successful corneal transplant at Narayana Nethralaya of the generous donation by Puneeth Rajkumar. The Sandalwood Power Star

Bangalore: We are very fortunate and grateful to have received Power Star Puneeth Rajkumar’s eye donation. What was unique is that we used each eye to treat two patients by separating the superior and deeper layers of the cornea. The superior layer was transplanted to two patients who had superficial corneal disease and only the deeper layer was transplanted to patients with endothelial or deep corneal layer disease. Hence, we created four different transplants from two corneas to restore vision for four different patients. This has not been done in our state to best of our knowledge.

The procedures performed were two different techniques of lamellar keratoplasty

Deep Anterior Lamellar Keratoplasty (DALK) – the outer or superficial part of cornea was transplanted for two young patients with corneal dystrophy and keratoconus. Both these conditions affect predominantly the superficial layer of the cornea, while the deeper part of the eye is normal. Hence, only the superior part was replaced and the endothelium of the patient was retained. This greatly reduces the chance of graft rejection.

Descemet’s Stripping Endothelial Keratoplasty (DSEK) – inner or deeper layer of the cornea is transplanted for two patients with corneal endothelial decompensation affecting the inner most layer of the cornea. In this procedure, only the endothelium is replaced and usually done with a small incision and few sutures. This avoids full thickness cornea transplant, is more comfortable for the patient and allows faster recovery.

Besides this, the limbal rim (white part of the eye near the circumference of the cornea) which was not used for the transplants, has been sent to our laboratory to generate ‘Induced Pluripotent Stem Cells’ for potential use in patients with Limbal Stem Cell deficiency, chemical injuries, acid burns and other serious disorders.

The surgeries were performed by Dr. Yathish Shivanna, Dr. Sharon D’Souza and Dr. Harsha Nagaraj, under the leadership of Dr. Rohit Shetty and supported by the rest of the cornea team, Dr. Gairik Kundu and Mr. Veeresh.

ಎರಡನೆಯದಾಗಿ , 07-11-2021ರಂದು ಮಲ್ಲೇಶ್ವರದ ಹವ್ಯಕ ಸಭಾಭವನದಲ್ಲಿ ‘ ಸುಶ್ರಾವ್ಯ ಸಂಜೆ ನಡೆಯುತ್ತದೆ . ಮುಂಬೈನಲ್ಲಿರುವ ರಾಷ್ಟ್ರಮಟ್ಟದ ಪ್ರಶಸ್ತಿ ಪುರಸ್ಕೃತ ಹಿಂದೂಸ್ತಾನಿ ಗಾಯಕ ಧನಂಜಯ ಹೆಗಡೆ ಅವರು ಸಂಗೀತ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮದಲ್ಲಿ ( ಸಂಜೆ 4 : 00 ಕ್ಕೆ ಆರಂಭ ) ಶೋತೃಗಳನ್ನು ರಂಜಿಸಲಿದ್ದಾರೆ . ವಿಧಾನಸಭಾಧ್ಯಕ್ಷರಾದ ಮಾನ್ಯ ಶ್ರೀ ವಿಶ್ವೇಶ್ವರ ಹೆಗಡೆ ಕಾಗೇರಿ ಅವರು ಮುಖ್ಯ ಅತಿಥಿಯಾಗಿ ಪಾಲ್ಗೊಳ್ಳುವ ಈ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮದಲ್ಲಿ ಬೆಳಗಾವಿಯ ಹಿರಿಯ ಪತ್ರಕರ್ತರಾದ ಲಕ್ಷ್ಮೀನಾರಾಯಣ ಶಂಭು ಶಾಸ್ತ್ರಿ ಮತ್ತು ವಿಶ್ವವಾಣಿ ಸಂಪಾದಕರಾದ ವಿಶ್ವೇಶ್ವರ ಭಟ್ಟ ಅವರನ್ನು ಸನ್ಮಾನಿಸಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ . ಇದೇ ವೇಳೆ , ತಾಳ – ಮದ್ದಳೆ ಸುಧನ್ವ ಮೋಕ್ಷವನ್ನು ಕೂಡ ಆಯೋಜಿಸಲಾಗಿದೆ . ದಂತಳಿಗೆ ಅನಂತ ಹೆಗಡೆ ಅವರ ಭಾಗವತಿಕೆ , ನಂತ ಪದ್ಮನಾಭ ಪಾಠಕ್ , ಮಣೆ ಅವರ ಮದ್ದಳೆಯೊಂದಿಗೆ ಇನ್ನಿತರ ಪ್ರಸಿದ್ಧ ಯುವ ಅರ್ಥಧಾರಿಗಳು ಈ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮ ನಡೆಸಿಕೊಡಲಿದ್ದಾರೆ . ಮೂರನೆಯದಾಗಿ , 14-1-2021ರಂದು ಮಲ್ಲೇಶ್ವರದ ಕೆನರಾ ಯೂನಿಯನ್‌ನಲ್ಲಿ ನಡೆಯುವ ‘ ಸ್ವರ ಸಂಜೆ’ಯಲ್ಲಿ ಹಾನಬಿ ಕಾರ್ತಿಕ್ ಹೆಗಡೆ ಅವರ ಗಾಯನ ಮತ್ತು ಪಂ.ರವೀಂದ್ರ ಯಾವಗಲ್ ಹಾಗೂ ವಿದ್ವಾನ್ ಆನೂರ ಅನಂತಕೃಷ್ಣ ಶರ್ಮ ಅವರ ‘ ತಬಲಾ – ಮೃದಂಗ ಜುಗಲ್‌ಬಂದಿ ‘ ಇರುತ್ತದೆ . ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮದ ಭಾಗವಾಗಿ ಪಂ.ರವೀಂದ್ರ ಯಾವಗಲ್ ಅವರನ್ನು ಕನ್ನಡ ಮತ್ತು ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತಿ ಇಲಾಖೆ ನಿರ್ದೇಶಕರಾದ ಶ್ರೀ ಎಸ್.ರಂಗಪ್ಪ ಅವರು ‘ ಸಪ್ತಕ’ದ ಪರವಾಗಿ ಸನ್ಮಾನಿಸಲಿದ್ದಾರೆ . ಈ ಮೂರೂ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮಗಳಿಗೆ ಪ್ರವೇಶ ಉಚಿತವಾಗಿದ್ದು , ಯಾವುದೇ ಟಿಕೆಟ್ ಆಗಲೀ , ಪ್ರವೇಶ ಧನವಾಗಲೀ ಇರುವುದಿಲ್ಲ .
