
Bengaluru, June 9: The American University of Spiritual Science (AUSS) formally launched its global academic and spiritual outreach with a special inaugural convocation held at the Shangri-La Hotel in Bengaluru.
The event celebrated India’s rich cultural and spiritual legacy by conferring Honorary Doctorates (Honoris Causa) on distinguished personalities who have made exceptional contributions to classical music, dance and spiritual traditions.
The honorary degrees were awarded to renowned Carnatic musician Padma Bhushan Madurai T.N. Seshagopalan, acclaimed vocalist Padma Bhushan Sudha Ragunathan, legendary violinist Padma Shri A. Kanyakumari, and eminent Bharatanatyam exponent Padma Shri Pratibha Prahlad in recognition of their lifelong dedication to preserving and promoting India’s artistic and spiritual heritage.

The convocation was attended by former Karnataka Chief Minister as the Chief Guest and as Guest of Honour. The honorary degrees were formally conferred by Chancellor Dr. Gireesh Kumar and Vice-Chancellor G. Arvind Ramaswamy.
Addressing the gathering, Yediyurappa stressed the importance of preserving India’s spiritual knowledge systems, classical arts and cultural traditions for future generations. He noted that institutions dedicated to spiritual education and cultural awareness play a significant role in strengthening societal values and fostering pride in India’s heritage.
Dr. Manjunath congratulated both the university leadership and the award recipients, commending their outstanding contributions to the fields of Indian classical arts and spiritual learning.
Speaking on the occasion, Chancellor Dr. Gireesh Kumar said the institution aims to create a meaningful bridge between ancient wisdom and contemporary global education. He added that AUSS seeks to promote holistic learning through programmes centred on spirituality, consciousness studies and personal growth.
The ceremony also featured a series of classical music and dance performances, reflecting the university’s commitment to celebrating and preserving India’s cultural traditions.
Registered in Florida, USA, the American University of Spiritual Science offers degree and certificate programmes within a religious-vocational and consciousness-learning framework, focusing on spiritual and holistic development rather than scientific or medical qualifications.
