Bengaluru: Seeking the fulfilment of their long-pending and legitimate demands, AYUSH doctors across Karnataka, under the leadership of the AYUSH Federation of India (AFI), Karnataka, have decided to launch an indefinite protest and Dharna Satyagraha from September 22, 2026.
As part of the agitation, thousands of AYUSH doctors from 32 district units across the state are expected to participate in the ‘Raichur Chalo’ programme in Raichur. The protest aims to draw the government’s attention to issues concerning the professional rights of AYUSH doctors, service security and their effective utilisation in rural and primary healthcare services.
Key Demands
The federation has urged the state government to:
Provide an appropriate legal and regulatory framework, in accordance with applicable laws, rules and government guidelines, enabling AYUSH doctors to use modern medicines at the primary healthcare level wherever legally permitted.
Effectively implement the professional rights and service opportunities of AYUSH doctors in Karnataka in accordance with the intent of the NCISM and NCH Acts and relevant Gazette notifications.
Ensure that complaints against AYUSH doctors under the KPME Act and related rules are dealt with only through due legal procedures, with appropriate verification and inquiry mechanisms for complaints filed by eligible patients or their authorised relatives.
Introduce simple, clear and practical regulations to address issues related to KPME registration and renewal, Fire NOC and other compliance requirements for AYUSH clinics.
Ensure adequate representation of qualified AYUSH doctors in government committees dealing with AYUSH-related matters and in KPME-related committees.
Develop an effective system to utilise the services of AYUSH doctors working in rural areas and at the primary healthcare level, thereby providing the public with safe, affordable and comprehensive healthcare.
AFI Karnataka has appealed to AYUSH doctors from all districts to participate in the agitation peacefully and in a disciplined manner.
“Our agitation is not against any individual or institution. It is aimed at securing the legal rights and professional dignity of AYUSH doctors and ensuring better primary healthcare services for the people of Karnataka,” said Dr. Mohan Biradar, State President, AFI Karnataka.
The federation has urged the government to immediately consider its demands and resolve the issues through dialogue. Dr. Mohan Biradar and Dr. Anand Kirishal, State General Secretary, AFI Karnataka, said the federation would decide on its next course of action based on the government’s response and continue the agitation until its demands are addressed.
