Bengaluru: Senior advocate Premila Nesargi said that the ideals and philosophies of Gautama Buddha, who enlightened the world with wisdom and peace, and Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, the architect of the Indian Constitution, should be embraced by everyone in their daily lives.

She was speaking after inaugurating the Buddha Jayanti, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Jayanti and the 22nd edition of the “Samskruthika Sinchana” cultural programme organised by “Idu Nimma Vahini Kala Vedike” at Nayana Auditorium in Bengaluru.
Nesargi said Buddha emerged as a guiding light of knowledge by winning hearts through peace and compassion. Following the same path, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar fought for the rights of the oppressed and framed laws that upheld equality and justice. She noted that the ideals of both great leaders are highly relevant and essential for the present generation.
Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Commissioner of Police H. Manjunath Babu said, “The reason we live today under the protection of law and constitutional values is because of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s contribution. Everyone should adopt Buddha’s path of peace and Ambedkar’s spirit of struggle and social justice.”
He also expressed concern over the growing drug menace in the city and stressed that parents have an important role in protecting children and youth from falling into addiction.

During the programme, senior journalists Gandasi Sadanandaswamy, Subrahmanya Handige and Shivaraj Maurya were honoured with the “Madhyama Seva Ratna” award for their contribution to the media field.
Senior advocate Premila Nesargi and DCP H. Manjunath Babu were presented with the “Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Award”.
On the same occasion, Dr. V. Bharani Raju of Sanjeevini Reiki Healing Center was felicitated with the “Vishishta Seva Ratna” award.
Children presented various cultural performances and entertained the audience during the event. Among those present were “Idu Nimma Vahini” General Secretary Kishore Kumar K. S., event coordinator Chandrika B. V. and several others.
