Bengaluru: The poetry and social vision of renowned Dakhani Urdu poet and Karnataka Rajyotsava Award recipient Sulaiman Khateeb will come alive on stage through the musical drama ‘Kewde Ka Bann’, to be staged at the Prestige Centre for Performing Arts on September 25th, at 7 pm.
Known for his distinctive blend of humour, satire and social commentary, Khateeb’s writings have addressed issues including social inequality, the struggles of farmers and workers, women’s rights, dowry, corruption, education and communal harmony. His popular book has already gone through 16 editions.
The play has been adapted to introduce Khateeb’s literary work to a wider and younger audience while retaining the flavour of his original Dakhani style. Through music, folk traditions, humour and satire, the production presents social issues in an engaging and accessible format.
The Sulaiman Khateeb Educational, Cultural and Charitable Trust is also working to preserve and carry forward his literary and social legacy. The initiative seeks to promote Dakhani Urdu language, literature and theatre while highlighting values such as education, equality, humanity and social harmony.
‘Kewde Ka Bann’ is expected to offer audiences of different age groups an entertaining cultural experience while bringing attention to themes that continue to resonate with contemporary society.
