Bengaluru, July 3: United Mission PU & Degree College inaugurated two new academic centres—the Centre for Gandhian and Ambedkar Studies and the Centre for Global Engagement-in a move aimed at strengthening value-based education, social responsibility and global learning.
The centres were inaugurated by , Regional Director of Tiffany & Co. and the fifth-generation great-granddaughter of Rev. Benjamin Holt Rice, the missionary, educationist and founder of the United Mission. Her presence underscored the institution’s historic roots and its continuing commitment to education and public service.
Speaking on the occasion, Rolton emphasised the need to uphold the values of justice, equality, compassion and service while equipping young people to thrive in an increasingly interconnected world. She lauded the College for establishing two centres that honour its legacy while preparing students for future global challenges.
The Centre for Gandhian and Ambedkar Studies has been set up to encourage research, dialogue, leadership development and community outreach based on the ideals of and . Its activities will focus on constitutional values, social justice, equality, human dignity, peace and inclusive development through academic programmes and public engagement.
The Centre for Global Engagement will promote international collaborations, student and faculty exchange programmes, intercultural learning, research partnerships and leadership initiatives. It aims to prepare students to become globally aware, socially responsible citizens capable of making meaningful contributions to society.
Addressing the gathering, College Principal Dr. Dhivya Kiran Jeevan, said the two centres represent an important step towards achieving the institution’s vision of holistic education that integrates academic excellence with ethical leadership, social commitment and a global outlook. He expressed confidence that the centres would emerge as dynamic platforms for research, innovation, intellectual exchange and community impact.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by members of the management, faculty, students, alumni, staff and invited guests, marking another milestone in the institution’s continuing efforts to promote transformative education grounded in values and global engagement.
