CPRI Salutes Dr B.R. Ambedkar with Grand Celebration and Student Honours

CPRI Bengaluru marks Ambedkar’s 135th birth anniversary with tributes, awards and cultural events

Bengaluru, April 29, 2026: The Central Power Research Institute (CPRI) commemorated the 135th birth anniversary of B. R. Ambedkar with a solemn and well-attended programme at its Bengaluru campus on Tuesday.

The event began with a welcome address by Dr T. Mallikarjuna Rao, Director, CPRI, who underlined the continued relevance of Ambedkar’s vision in shaping an inclusive and equitable society. This was followed by the ceremonial lighting of the lamp and a floral tribute to the architect of the Indian Constitution, setting the tone for the occasion.

Delivering the keynote address, chief guest Dr G. B. Harisha-professor, philosopher and writer-spoke at length on Ambedkar’s ideals, his philosophical depth and his enduring constitutional vision. He emphasised the importance of upholding democratic values and social justice in contemporary times.

In her presidential address, Dr J. Sreedevi, Director General, CPRI, highlighted Ambedkar’s pivotal contributions to nation-building, particularly his relentless efforts towards social equality and empowerment of marginalised communities. She noted that his ideas continue to guide institutions in fostering fairness and inclusivity.

A key highlight of the programme was the presentation of Dr B. R. Ambedkar Merit Awards to outstanding students, recognising academic excellence and encouraging young achievers. The award ceremony was coordinated by Dr Kaliappan P, Additional Director, CPRI.

Shri Prabhakar C, Joint Director and liaison officer for SC/ST and persons with disabilities, delivered the vote of thanks, acknowledging the efforts of organisers and participants.

The celebration concluded on a vibrant note with a cultural performance by Dattashri Samskruthika Vedike, adding a festive touch to the proceedings.
The programme saw enthusiastic participation from staff and invitees, serving as a fitting tribute to the enduring legacy and ideals of Dr B. R. Ambedkar.
