Fortis Bannerghatta Road Launches Dedicated Spine Deformity Clinic

Bengaluru, August 22, 2026: Fortis Hospital, Bannerghatta Road, has launched a dedicated Spine Deformity Clinic to provide specialised diagnosis, treatment and surgical care for patients with complex spinal conditions.
The clinic, led by Dr. Umesh Srikanta, Additional Director, Neurosurgery and Clinical Lead, Spine Surgery, brings together a multidisciplinary team of specialists and advanced technology to treat congenital, structural and degenerative spinal deformities in both children and adults.
The clinic was inaugurated in the presence of nearly 100 guests, including doctors, hospital leadership, staff and patients. It will offer comprehensive care ranging from detailed evaluation and surgical planning to treatment and post-operative recovery. Services include complex spinal deformity correction, minimally invasive and endoscopic spine procedures, and management of chronic spine-related pain.

According to doctors, severe spinal deformities can affect posture, mobility, physical function and overall quality of life. Children and adolescents with complex deformities often require early assessment, specialised surgical planning and careful monitoring to achieve correction while protecting the spinal cord and nerves.
Advanced technologies such as 3D real-time imaging and continuous neuro-monitoring will support complex procedures at the clinic, helping surgeons improve surgical precision and monitor neurological function throughout surgery.

The clinic’s launch was marked by the participation of two young patients who had successfully undergone corrective spine surgeries at Fortis Hospital.
Ramya (name changed), a 12-year-old girl, was treated for severe thoracic scoliosis involving a major portion of her spine. She underwent corrective and fixation surgery with continuous monitoring of the spinal cord and nerves. Post-operative imaging showed significant correction of the spinal curvature. She was able to stand and walk within days and recovered without neurological complications.
Another patient, 14-year-old Kiran (name changed), had previously undergone surgery for a congenital spinal abnormality during childhood. He later developed a severe recurrent spinal curvature. Investigations revealed an abnormally shaped vertebra and fused bones that had affected the alignment and mobility of his spine.
The surgical team performed a complex revision procedure to correct and stabilise the spine, using 3D real-time imaging and continuous nerve monitoring to improve precision and safety.
Speaking on the launch, Dr. Umesh Srikanta said that complex spinal deformities, especially among children and adolescents, require detailed assessment, meticulous planning and specialised surgical expertise. He added that the new clinic aims to provide patients with a personalised and coordinated treatment pathway using advanced technology and focused clinical expertise.
Mr. Gautham CB, Facility Director, Fortis Hospital, Bannerghatta Road, said the launch reflects the hospital’s commitment to specialised care for patients with complex spinal conditions. He said the clinic would bring together expert teams, advanced technology and coordinated care to support patients from diagnosis through treatment and recovery.
