“Sacred Buddha Jayanti 2026” Maha Bodhi Society Announces Citywide Spiritual Celebrations

The Maha Bodhi Society Bengaluru has extended a warm invitation to media and press professionals to cover the 2570th Sacred Buddha Jayanti celebrations, which will be organized across Bengaluru and various parts of Karnataka from April 19 to May 1, 2026. The annual observance, marking the birth, enlightenment, and Mahaparinirvana of Lord Buddha, is expected to draw devotees, scholars, and peace advocates from across the region.

This year’s programme has been thoughtfully curated to promote the timeless message of peace, compassion, and harmony. A series of spiritual, cultural, and intellectual events will unfold over the two-week period, with key highlights reflecting both traditional reverence and contemporary relevance.

One of the  Main Traction is the “Walk for Peace” scheduled on April 25 between 8:45 AM and 10:30 AM. The initiative aims to bring together people from diverse backgrounds in a collective expression of unity and non-violence, echoing the core teachings of Lord Buddha.

On April 26, the celebrations will witness a significant milestone with the inauguration of the Mahabodhi Pali & Research Centre, followed by an interfaith seminar. The event will be led by Karnataka Minister Zameer Ahmed Khan and is expected to host scholars and religious leaders engaging in meaningful dialogue on spiritual coexistence and shared human values.

The programme will culminate on May 1 with the grand observance of Vesakha Buddha Purnima. The day will feature traditional rituals including puja, guided meditation sessions, and a symbolic lamp offering ceremony. The celebrations will be held in two sessions—morning (10 AM to 4 PM) and evening (6 PM to 7:30 PM)—providing devotees ample opportunity to participate in the sacred proceedings.

The celebrations are not only a religious observance but also a platform to reinforce Buddha’s universal teachings in today’s world. The Maha Bodhi Society has encouraged widespread participation and media coverage to amplify the message of peace and mindful living.

Akshaya Tritiya Celebrations at Sri Raghavendra Swamy Mutt in Jayanagar

On the auspicious occasion of Akshaya Tritiya, special religious ceremonies and offerings have been organized at the Sri Raghavendra Swamy Mutt in Jayanagar 5th Block.

As per the divine guidance of His Holiness Sri Subudhendra Tirtha, the rituals will be conducted under the leadership of the senior administrator of the Mutt, Sri R.K. Vadindra Acharya. The celebrations are scheduled for Monday, April 20, 2026, coinciding with Vaishakha Shukla Paksha Tritiya, traditionally observed as Akshaya Tritiya.

A key highlight of the event will be the complete sandalwood paste (Sri Gandha) alankara offered to the Brindavana of Sri Raghavendra Swamy, along with a series of special sevas and rituals.

Devotees will have the opportunity to participate in a wide range of spiritual services, including:

Hanuman Jayanti celebrated with rituals and community service at Raghavendra Swamy Mutt in Jayanagar

Bengaluru: Hanuman Jayanti was observed with religious fervour at the Sri Raghavendra Swamy Mutt in Jayanagar 5th Block, drawing thousands of devotees to the premises.

The celebrations were conducted as per the directives of His Holiness Sri 1008 Sri Subudhendra Teertha Swamiji, under the leadership of the mutt’s senior manager, R.K. Vadindrachar. The rituals included Panchamrita Abhisheka, Kanakabhisheka, special decorations, Maha Mangalarati, and Annadanam (mass feeding).

Evening events featured a grand Rathotsava, Gajavahana Seva, Ashtavadhana, and Thottilu Pooja, adding to the festive spirit, said Nandakishore Achar.
Devotees in large numbers participated in the celebrations, received prasadam, and were blessed with mantrakshate from the seers.

Two-Day National Book Fair 2026 draws strong turnout, celebrates Gen Z reading culture

Bengaluru: A two-day National Book Fair hosted by JAIN (Deemed-to-be University) in collaboration with the National Book Trust of India concluded on March 26 with an enthusiastic response from students, academicians and book lovers.
Held at the JAIN Knowledge Campus, the event brought together publishers and booksellers from across the country, offering a wide selection of academic titles, literature and competitive exam materials.

The inaugural session was attended by Prof. S. R. Niranjana, Vice Chairman of the Karnataka State Higher Education Council, who served as the chief guest. In his keynote address, Dr. Ramesha B, senior professor and chairperson at the Department of Library and Information Science, Bangalore University, spoke on “Reading Habits: The New Social Flex among Gen Z.” He highlighted how reading is increasingly being rediscovered by younger audiences as both an intellectual pursuit and a cultural statement.
The programme was presided over by Dr. Jitendra Kumar Mishra, Vice Chancellor (in-charge) and Registrar of JAIN University, in the presence of senior academic leaders including Dr. Dinesh Nilkant, Pro Vice Chancellor, Dr. Shradha Kanwar, Chief Academic Officer, and Dr. Pattipaka Mohan from NBTI, Bengaluru. The event was coordinated by Dr. Meeramani N, university librarian.

Organisers said the fair not only saw strong participation but also succeeded in reinforcing the relevance of books in an increasingly digital world. By encouraging young readers to engage with print, the event aimed to nurture critical thinking, creativity and deeper learning habits among Gen Z.
