The event will bring together 800 global seed experts from 80 countries with a common goal: share information and ideas about the seed trade.

Bengaluru, 6th December: The curtain raiser for the 32nd ISTA Symposium & Congress began today at 10:30 AM at Hotel Radisson Blu Atriya, Bengaluru in order to promote active participation from private, public and semi-private seed industry stakeholders. The goal of 32nd ISTA conference is to strengthen seed research and education about seed testing practices in the seed industry, in order to improve quality seeds supply to Indian farmers as well as to increase international exports by Indian companies. The conference aims to explore the seed export potential of India, especially in the potential states of Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and Telangana.

Shri. N.H Shivashankar Reddy, Honourable Minister of Agriculture, Govt. of Karnataka and chief guest of the event said – “Seed technology is essential for better quality seeds and produce, seeds which are more profitable and give better income for farmers. With better seeds, international exports will increase; and ISTA symposium & congress will help farmers from all over the state.” The event was also attended by Shri. C. Parthasarathi, APC & Principal Secretary(Agriculture), Govt. of Telangana; Shri. Maheshwar Rao, IAS & Secretary(Agriculture); and Dr. Keshavulu, Organizing Secretary of the ISTA Symposium & Congress 2019 & Director of Telangana State Seed Certification Agency & TSSC.

Organised by the Govt. of Karnataka, the curtain raiser was aimed at engaging with seed industry stakeholders, agricultural universities, state seed corporations and certification agencies, and it was quite the success. The event highlighted the theme for the seed symposium of the 32nd ISTA symposium & congress – Seed Technology & Quality in a Changing World, and the speakers shed light on the state of the seed industry and the modern trends in seeds in India.

Mr. Arthur Santosh Attavar, Chairman & Managing Director, Indo American Hybrid Seeds (India) Pvt. Ltd, Bangalore has taken the initiative to convene and co-host the event which was attended by several seed experts, industry researchers, analysts and professionals from the private and public seed industry. He said – “India is constantly developing a better range of products which are engineered to suit the various agro-climatic conditions of the country. This will enable us to cater to domestic as well as international markets with ease.” Indo American Hybrid Seeds( India) Pvt. Ltd seed laboratory is the first accredited private seed laboratory in Asia to get accreditation of ISTA in the year 2002 and has expanded scope of accreditation for seed health testing, varietal testing and seed vigour.

Since 2008, ISTA and IAHS(India) Pvt. Ltd in collaboration have organized workshops on quality management and quality assurance in seed testing, seed sampling, germination and viability testing, vigour testing and seed health testing involving over 30 countries across Asian and Middle East, African and Far east countries for public and private seed industries and institutions. Late Padmashri Dr.Manmohan Attavar, Founder and Chairman, IAHS(I) Pvt. Ltd patronised seed quality training through ISTA workshops to improve seed productivity for domestic and export trade.

The 32nd ISTA Symposium will be held in Hyderabad from 26-28 June 2019, followed by the ISTA Congress from June 29- July 03 2019. This is the first time in 94 years that the ISTA Congress is being hosted in Asia by India. The event will bring together 800 global seed experts from 80 countries with a common goal: share information and ideas about the seed trade. Dr. Keshavulu, Organizing Secretary of the ISTA Symposium, said – “The ISTA Symposium & Congress will be the first seed event in India which will be attended by so many international delegates. The conference will greatly boost seed infrastructure and technology in the country and encourage international quality seeds in the country.”

The 32nd ISTA Symposium & Congress will be attended by seed analysts, technologists and researchers, managers from the government, universities and research institutes, and other stakeholders in the seed trade to discuss all aspects of seed quality; and will also provide a forum for the discussion of recent advances in seed science and technology along. The congress will help to strengthen the seed research, education, seed industry; & act as a forum for policy legislation and quality regulation system across the country which helps to get in line with the global standards.

Canara Bank has been issuing EMV Compliant Chip Cards to the customers w.e.f, February 2016.

With a view to secure Card transactions against fraudulent usages, Reserve Bank of India has mandated that all existing Magstripe Debit / Credit & Prepaid Cards issued to customers are mandatorily required to be replaced with EMV Chip Card by 31 December 2018. In order to comply with the above RBI directives, Canara Bank has been issuing EMV Compliant Chip Cards to the customers w.e.f, February 2016. To facilitate customers for replacing their existing Magstripe Cards, Bank has made sufficient inventory of EMV Chip Cards available in its branches to cater to immediate replacement on request of the customer.

With barely four weeks to go, Bank is leaving no stone unturned in reaching out to the customers through multiple channels. A massive campaign is underway amongst all branches of the Bank pan India from 3 December 2018 to contact maximum customers and urge for replacement of Magstripe Card. Bank has been sending SMS blast in regional languages periodically for maximum outreach informing about the replacement for continued services. Bank is also trying to educate the customers through Social Media by uploading the educational videos in multiple languages on You Tube and Twitter. In order to target the younger and tech savvy segment, and particularly customers who are away from their home branch, an online package is deployed on its website http://www.canarabank.com to capture the request from the customers and dispatch the Cards directly to their communication address. Bank has also come out with paper Advertisement in national & Regional dailies for increasing awareness. With the multipronged strategies, Bank Management is confident of completing the task before the due date.

Magstripe cardholder customers are requested to contact their branch or submit their online request for replacement of their existing Magstripe card with EMV Chip Card before 31.12.2018.

India Women’s Caucus to convene in Bengaluru on December 8th 2018

The India Women’s Caucus (JWC) is a group of non-partisan women who have joined hands with the long-term goal of enabling more women to get elected as MLAs and MPs across parties. After a successful pilot event in Goa in October this year, the IWC is organising a day-long meeting on Saturday, December 8, 2018, at Hotel Chalukya in Bengaluru. The IWC is being convened by Rajasree Nagarsekar, a journalist in Goa and Tara Krishnaswamy, co-founder of Citizens for Bengaluru, author and activist.

Addressing the media at the Bangalore Press Club, Tara Krishnaswamy said, “The meeting of the India Women’s Caucus is part of a larger sustained campaign we intend to begin. It is unfortunate that women who have had great success as corporators and panchayat leaders are unable to grow as the parties deny tickets for them. We need to work with political parties and women candidates too. A resolution on the next steps towards the General Election of 2019 will be formulated through the event and released to the media at the close of the day.”

Vasanthi Hariprakash, a well-known journalist, asked the media to support the initiative. “Women are missing in action in Assembly and Parliament. We need to understand the root causes and action plan by holding discussions with women leaders from political parties, elected representatives, social scientists, grassroots activists, journalists and others. I’m excited that all of us are coming together,” she said.

Cynthia Stephen, social policy researcher, said, “This platform is designed to be inclusive, bringing together women of all walks of life, urban, rural, from different parts of the count who are interested in seeking political power to women.”

Speakers at the event will include women leaders from the INC, BJP, JD(S) and CPM, civil society and political activists, scholars, academicians, journalists and senior editors.
