Amazon India Successfully Eliminates 100% Single-Use Plastic in Packaging across its Fulfilment Centers

Bangalore, June 29, 2020 – Amazon India today announced that it has achieved a significant milestone in its efforts towards sustainability by eliminating all single-use plastic in packaging originating from its 50+ fulfilment centers in India. In September 2019 the company had pledged to meet this goal in an accelerated timeframe by June 2020, in an effort to build an environmentally sustainable supply chain.

Amazon India has taken several steps to achieve complete elimination of single-use plastic in its own fulfilment network. The first milestone towards this goal was achieved in December 2019 when the company replaced plastic packaging material, such as bubble wraps and air pillows, with ‘paper cushion’ in its packaging. The company then introduced 100% plastic-free and biodegradable paper tape earlier this year, which is used to seal and secure customer shipments. Additionally, the company has replaced thin cling films for customer deliveries among other material with packaging options that are not single-use plastic in nature. All other plastic packaging material originating from the Amazon Fulfilment Centers is 100% recyclable through available collection, segregation and recycling channels. Amazon India continues to educate sellers, who directly fulfil customer orders, to join in this directional change in packaging. 

Amazon India has carried out several pilots while developing innovative single-use plastic-free solutions, to gauge the in-transit strength of its packaging. The company has also collaborated with manufacturers to design sustainable packaging innovations to minimize waste in packaging. The pilots have enabled the company to make significant steps towards it sustainability goals without impacting the customer experience or product safety.

While navigating through unprecedented challenges with the lockdown and pandemic in the last few months, we have continued to take progressive steps towards ensuring that we meet our commitment. We strongly believe that moving towards sustainable practices is good for the planet, the customers and the business, and we will continue to invest and innovate on this front.”

Earlier this month, the company announced that it has expanded its India-first initiative, Packaging-Free Shipping (PFS) to over 100 cities, and now more than 40% of Amazon customer orders shipped from Amazon India’s Fulfilment centers are now either packaging-free or have significantly reduced packaging. The company has also been collecting and recycling plastic waste equivalent to its usage at a national level from September 2019, and has identified collection agencies to help collect equivalent 100% plastic waste generated from usage across Amazon fulfilment network.

Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa on Monday said that the government is committed to provide impetuous to creating jobs by reviving economic and industrial activities.

He was speaking after launching the `Skill Connect Forum,’ portal that connects both private entrepreneurs and job seekers on the same platform.

The portal provides information on jobs available and who needs a job. “An unemployed will be imparted a skill and then enabled to get a job,” the CM said.

Registering in portal will get a job while it also provides a skilled pool of people for those looking to hire, the CM said.

Bridging Information, Communication:

Deputy Chief Minister Dr. C.N. Ashwath Narayan who is also the skill development Minister said that portal will be a boon to the youth seeking jobs. “It will avoid unemployment issue to a great extent,” he said.

“All these years, there was no information and communication between job seekers and recruiters. The portal will solve that problem,” he said.

Dr. Narayan said that there was no proper information on skilled workers and job market. Moreover, the skill development was not in sync with the market. All these issues have been addressed by the portal, the Deputy CM explained.

How it works:
The portal https://skillconnect.kaushalkar.com connects the job seekers and those who want to hire.
All one has to do is to register on the portal by uploading their educational, skill qualifications and other details.
Similarly those looking for hiring a specific skilled persons can also register on the portal giving job discription.
If they find someone suitable for the specified job skill, the companies or industries can contact the job seekers directly and vice versa.

Chief Minister’s political secretary SR Vishwanath, Skill Development Secretary Selva Kumar, Skill Development Authority Managing Director Ashwin Gowda and other trade body representatives were present.

ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು: ಕೋವಿಡ್ 19 ನಂತರದ ಕಾಲದಲ್ಲಿ ರಾಜ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಕುಂಠಿತಗೊಂಡಿರುವ ಆರ್ಥಿಕ, ಕೈಗಾರಿಕಾ ಚಟುವಟಿಕೆಗಳಿಗೆ ಉತ್ತೇಜನ ನೀಡುವ ನಿಟ್ಟಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಉದ್ಯೋಗಾವಕಾಶ ಸೃಷ್ಟಿಸಲು ಸರಕಾರ ಬದ್ಧವಾಗಿದೆ ಎಂದು ಮುಖ್ಯಮಂತ್ರಿ ಯಡಿಯೂರಪ್ಪ ಅವರು ಹೇಳಿದರು.

ಬೆಂಗಳೂರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಸೋಮವಾರ ಕೌಶಲ್ಯಾಭಿವೃದ್ಧಿ ನಿಗಮವು ಖಾಸಗಿ ಉದ್ಯೋಗದಾತರು ಮತ್ತು ಉದ್ಯೋಗಾಂಕ್ಷಿಗಳನ್ನು ಒಂದೇ ವೇದಿಕೆಗೆ ತಂದು ನಿರುದ್ಯೋಗ ನಿವಾರಿಸುವ ಸಲುವಾಗಿ ರೂಪಿಸಲಾಗಿರುವ ’ಕೌಶಲ್ಯ ಸಂಪರ್ಕ ವೇದಿಕೆ’ ಪೋರ್ಟಲ್ ಉದ್ಘಾಟಿಸಿ ಮಾತನಾಡಿದ ಅವರು, ಇದು ಸರಕಾರದ ಮಹತ್ವಾಕಾಂಕ್ಷೆ ಯೋಜನೆ. ವಲಸೆ ಕಾರ್ಮೀಕರಿಗೆ ಇದು ವರದಾನವಗಲಿದೆ ಮತ್ತು ಅವರಿಗೂ ತರಬೇತಿ ನೀಡಲಾಗುವುದು ಎಂದರು.

ಎಲ್ಲೆಲ್ಲಿ ಉದ್ಯೋಗಾವಕಾಶಗಳು ಲಭ್ಯವಿವೆ, ಯಾರಿಗೆ ಕೆಲಸದ ಅಗತ್ಯವಿದೆ ಎಂಬ ಮಾಹಿತಿ ಈ ಪೋರ್ಟಲ್ ನಲ್ಲಿ ಲಭ್ಯವಿರುತ್ತದೆ. ಲಭ್ಯವಿರುವ ಉದ್ಯೋಗಗಳಿಗೆ ಅಗತ್ಯವಾದ ತರಬೇತಿಯನ್ನು ನೀಡಿ ಆ ಅಭ್ಯರ್ಥಿಗಳನ್ನು ಕೌಶಲಗೊಳಿಸಿ ಸಂಬಂಧಿತ ಕಂಪನಿಗೆ ಕಳಿಸಲಾಗುವುದು ಎಂದು ಸಿಎಂ ನುಡಿದರು.

ಪೋರ್ಟಲ್ ನಲ್ಲಿ ನೋಂದಾಯಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವ ಅಭ್ಯರ್ಥಿಗಳಿಗೆ ಖಚಿತವಾಗಿ ಕೆಲಸ ದೊರೆಯುತ್ತದೆ. ಅದೇ ರೀತಿ ಕಂಪನಿಗಳಿಗೂ ಈ ಸಂಪರ್ಕ ವೇದಿಕೆ ಮೂಲಕ ಉತ್ತಮ ಗುಣಮಟ್ಟದ ಕೌಶಲಪೂರ್ಣ ಮಾನವ ಸಂಪನ್ಮೂಲ ದೊರೆಯುತ್ತದೆ ಎಂದು ಅಷ್ಟೇ ಖಚಿತವಾಗಿ ಹೇಳಬಲ್ಲೆಎಂದು ಮುಖ್ಯಮಂತ್ರಿಗಳು ಭರವಸೆ ನೀಡಿದರು.

ಇದುವರೆಗೂ ರಾಜ್ಯದದಲ್ಲಿ ಊದ್ಯೋಗಾಕಾಂಕ್ಷಿಗಳು ಮತ್ತು ಉದ್ಯೋಗದಾತರ ನಡುವೆ ಮಾಹಿತಿ, ಸಂಪರ್ಕದ ಕೊರತೆ ಇತ್ತು. ಈಗ ಆ ಪರಿಸ್ಥಿತಿ ಬದಲಾಗಿ ಕುಗ್ರಾಮದಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಪ್ರತಿಭಾವಂತರಿಗೂ ಎಲ್ಲೆಲ್ಲಿ ಉದ್ಯೋಗ ಸಿಗಲಿದೆ ಎಂಬ ಮಾಹಿತಿ ಸುಲಭ, ಸರಳವಾಗಿ ಸಿಗಲಿದೆ. ಪ್ರತಿಭೆಗೆ ತಕ್ಕ ಕೆಲಸ ಹಾಗೂ ಉದ್ಯೋಗದಾತರಿಗೆ ತಮ್ಮ ಅಗತ್ಯಕ್ಕೆ ತಕ್ಕ ಮಾನವ ಸಂಪನ್ಮೂಲ ಲಭ್ಯವಾಗಲಿದೆ ಎಂದು ಡಿಸಿಎಂ ಹೇಳಿದರು.

ಈ ಹಿಂದೆ ಎಲ್ಲಿ ಉದ್ಯೋಗ ಲಭ್ಯವಿದೆ ಎಂಬ ಮಾಹಿತಿ ಸಿಗುತ್ತಿರಲಿಲ್ಲ. ಹಾಗೇಯೇ, ಉದ್ಯೋಗಧಾತರಿಗೂ ಎಲ್ಲಿ ಕೌಶಲಪೂರ್ಣ ಸಿಗುತ್ತಾರೆಂಬುದು ಗೊತ್ತಾಗುತ್ತಿರಲಿಲ್ಲ. ಜಾಬ್ ಮಾರುಕಟ್ಟೆಯ ಬೇಡಿಕೆಯನ್ನು ಗಮನಿಸದೇ ತರಬೇತಿ ನೀಡುವ ಅವೈಜ್ಞಾನಿಕ ಪದ್ಧತಿ ಇತ್ತು. ಈಗ ಅಂಥ ವ್ಯವಸ್ಥೆಗೆ ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣವಾಗಿ ತಿಲಾಂಜಲಿ ನೀಡಿ ನಿರುದ್ಯೋಗಿಗಳಿಗೆ ಖಚಿತ ಭರವಸೆ ಮೂಡಿಸಲಾಗುತ್ತಿದೆ ಎಂದು ಅವರು ತಿಳಿದರು.

ಸರಕಾರವು ಕಂಪನಿಗಳ ಜತೆ ಒಪ್ಪಂದ ಮಾಡಿಕೊಳ್ಳಲಿದೆ. ಅವರ ಬೇಡಿಕೆಗೆ ತಕ್ಕಂತೆ ಅಭ್ಯರ್ಥಿಗಳಿಗೆ ತರಬೇತಿ ನೀಡಿ ಕಳಿಸಲಾಗುವುದು. ಇದು ಅತ್ಯಂತ ಪರಿಣಾಮಕಾರಿ. ರಾಜ್ಯದ ಪ್ರಗತಿಗೆ ಇದು ನಿರ್ಣಾಯಕ ಪಾತ್ರ ವಹಿಸಲಿದೆ ಎಂದು ಡಿಸಿಎಂ ವಿಶ್ವಾಸ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಪಡಿಸಿದರು.

ಪೋರ್ಟಲ್ ಹೇಗೆ ಕೆಲಸ ಮಾಡುತ್ತದೆ?:
ಇದು ಉದ್ಯೋಗದಾತರು ಮತ್ತು ಉದ್ಯೋಗಾಂಕ್ಷಿಗಳ ಸಂಪರ್ಕ ಕೊಂಡಿ. ಇದರ ಮೂಲಕ ಕಂಪನಿಗಳು ತಮಗೆ ಅಗತ್ಯವಿರುವ ಮಾನವ ಸಂಪನ್ಮೂಲದ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಬೇಡಿಕೆ ಇಡಬಹುದು. ಅದರನ್ವಯ ಉದ್ಯೋಗಾಂಕ್ಷಿಗಳು ತಮ್ಮ ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಹತೆ, ಕೌಶಲಕ್ಕೆ ಅನುಗುಣವಾಗಿ ಅರ್ಜಿ ಸಲ್ಲಿಸಬಹುದು. ಉದ್ಯೋಗದ ಬೇಡಿಕೆಗೆ ಅನುಗುಣವಾಗಿ ತಂತ್ರಾಂಶವನ್ನು ಬಳಸಿ ಉದ್ಯೋಗಿಗಳನ್ನು ಪೋರ್ಟಲ್ ಹೊಂದಾಣಿಕೆ ಮಾಡಲಿದೆ.

Senior Police Officer Dr. P. S. Harsha, who was the Commissioner of Police at Mangaluru, assumed charge as Commissioner for the Department of Information and Public Relations here on Monday.

Dr. P. S. Harsha had earlier served as the Commissioner of Information and Public Relations.

Mr S N Siddaramappa, who was Commissioner for the Department of Information and Public Relations, handed over the charge to Dr P S Harsha and wished him all the best.

ರಾಜಕೀಯ ಮಾಡಲು ಇತರೆ ಬೇಕಾದಷ್ಟು ವಿಷಯಗಳಿವೆ. ಆದರೆ ದೇಶದ ಹಿತ, ಸಾರ್ವಜನಿಕರ ಆರೋಗ್ಯ ರಕ್ಷಣೆಯಂಥ ವಿಷಯಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ರಾಜಕೀಯ ಲಾಭ ಬದಿಗಿಟ್ಟು ಒಟ್ಟಾಗಿ ಕೆಲಸ ಮಾಡುವುದೇ ನಿಜವಾದ ಮಾನವೀಯತೆ. ಆದರೆ ಇದಕ್ಕೆ ವ್ಯತಿರಿಕ್ತವಾಗಿ ನಡೆದುಕೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತಿರುವ ಈ ಕಾಂಗ್ರೆಸ್ ಮುಖಂಡರು ನಮ್ಮ ರಾಜ್ಯದ ಸಾಮಾಜಿಕ ಹಿತಕ್ಕೇ ಕೊಡಲಿಪೆಟ್ಟು ಹಾಕುತ್ತಿದ್ದಾರೆ.

ಒಂದು ದಿನ ಇವರೆಲ್ಲಾ ತಮ್ಮ ದುಬಾರಿ ಕಾರುಗಳನ್ನು ಮನೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಬಿಟ್ಟು ಸೈಕಲ್ ಹತ್ತಿದಾಕ್ಷಣ ಪೆಟ್ರೋಲ್ ದರ ಇಳಿದುಬಿಡುತ್ತದೆಯೇ? ಅಸಲಿಗೆ ಇದು ಕೇವಲ ಬೂಟಾಟಿಕೆಯ ಪ್ರದರ್ಶನವಾಗಿ ಕಾಣುತ್ತದೆ ಅಷ್ಟೇ!
