Holistic approach from conception through early parenthood to help prepare India’s “New Humanity”

*Global experts meet to discuss the prospects of creating thriving families and empowered youth over the next decade

Bengaluru 05 November 2019 : The recently concluded 3-day International Conference titled “Birthing the New Humanity – Youth at the Heart of The New Humanity”, held at Bangalore, witnessed several delegates and speakers, whose sole agenda was to “work together to birth a humanity that will be ‘hardwired’ to live in peace, abundance and respect for life in all its forms”.

Dr. Hema Divakar, who is the FOGSI Ambassador to FIGO, and the CEO of ARTIST (Asian Research and Training Institute for Skill Transfer) was the Special Guest of the Conference. Dr. Hema’s brainchild – ARTIST, since its inception in 2005, has been involved in Advocacy, Capacity building and Research through its ABCDE initiative. Anemia care and adolescent health; Building reproductive choices & opportunities for youth; Cancer – early detection and prevention with vaccine; Diabetes care and cure; Education and empowerment, are the areas addressed by ARTIST, to fulfil the objectives of their “Vision 2022 – Women Health, Nation’s Wealth” goals.

While addressing the delegates, Dr. Hema said that “investing in the youth of the country pays rich demographic dividends, because an informed and conscious youth will create a whole new generation of enlightened citizens. The primary focus of ARTIST’s nationwide resolve for skill transfer and capacity enhancement initiatives are to ensure competency in skills for the frontline maternal and child healthcare delivery staff and not mere certifications, so that an ARTIST Certification would mean, an individual medical staff in consideration is competent enough for that specific skill. This will help us improve maternal and neo natal mortality rates and many other critical health indices”.

Dr. Julie Gerland who is a pioneer in holistic health and parenting, echoes the sentiments discussed during the conference. She is also a trainer in hypnobirthing childbirth education. A recipient of several international awards, she is currently the UN representative for Environmental Peace and is also the Co-Founder of Birthing The New Humanity.

Dr. Julie expressed concern about “major global challenges that are affecting everyone and everything on the planet”. She added: “Whilst the situation seems overwhelming with little hope of real lasting change, we actually stand before an unprecedented opportunity. We have the chance to make a quantum leap in human evolution. Increasingly people are waking up and hearing the call for a paradigm shift, a need to participate and ‘birth the changes’ we wish to see in the world”.

She drove attention to the May 2008 document released by WHO, UNICEF and their partners: “We now understand that the period from pregnancy to age 3 is the most

critical, when the brain grows faster than at any other time; 80% of a baby’s brain is formed by this age. For healthy brain development in these years, children need a safe, secure and loving environment, with the right nutrition and stimulation from their parents or caregivers. This is a window of opportunity to lay a foundation of health and wellbeing whose benefits last a lifetime – and carry into the next generation.”

Dr. Payel Biswas Soo, Co-convenor of the conference, is a Child Birth Educator & Lactation specialist at Diwakar Speciality Hospital, and Co-Founder & Director of Institute of Human Science for Holistic Health, India. Dr. Payel, during her talk said: “Youth are at ‘the heart of creating the new humanity’ as they are its future parents. Globally a paradigm shift has just occurred. It is now accepted by the United Nations, and top priority for the G20 countries, that early childhood development from pregnancy to age three, lays the foundation for life-long health, emotional security, brain development and is key to achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals and a thriving human family.”

Other dignitaries who spoke during the International Conference include: Dr. François Gerland, Co-Founder BirthTheChange® & Birthing The New Humanity; Mr. Charles Boicey, Chief Innovation Officer of Clearsense, LLC; Dr. Kalyani N., Prenatal Psychotherapist, Hypnobirthing® Childbirth Educator & Lactation Educator, India; and Sandra Rumi Madhu, Midwife, Principal of Bangladesh Adventist Nursing Institute.
