Uddaan Foundation Organises 10K Marathon to Raise Funds For Its Employment Training Programs

Bengaluru, November 2nd, 2019: The City-based Help Uddaan Foundation, a not-for profit organisation, dedicated to eradicating poverty by creating employment opportunities for the poor, is organising Uddaan Run 2K19, a 10 kilometre run, here on December 29, 2019 to raise funds for its skill training programs.

Founded in June this year by students, Uddaan has launched various market-based solutions such as microfinance and social enterprises, skill training aimed at making the underprivileged self sustainable and self reliable. In Karnataka, the Foundation has adopted 4 villages Ramnagara, Kuntur, Ekalbara, and Kundana, where it provides training for employment opportunities

Addressing the media, Mr. Shrenik Mahaveerchand Bambki, Chairman, Uddaan, said, “Uddaan Run 2K19 is organized to highlight the opportunities India has to eradicate poverty. We at Uddaan believe that this can be achieved chiefly by helping the poor stand up and compete The proceedings from the sale of the marathon tickets and sponsorship amount will be utilised for us to reach our training and employment programs to a large number of people, especially in villages. In the few months of its existence, Uddaan has already provided employment opportunities to over 100 underprivileged population. It has also launched a range of products including incense sticks and tea in the retail markets to generate employment in production and marketing activities for these products.

Talking about the past achievements of Uddaan, Mr. Jeet Chandan, President, said that the Foundation has trained 20 visually-challenged persons in making paper plates. It has created employment for 40 people who are now engaged in making Uddaan Incense sticks. About 35 men and women are engaged in the production and distribution of Uddaan Tea, and 25 others were placed in corporates. Uddaan has also donated 20 sewing machines to women to help them increase their household income. He said that Uddaan aims to employ 500 people by 2020. It will procure and distribute sewing machines, and distribute organic fertilizers for the marginalised farmers Being run by students who are in the age group of 18 to 25, Uddaan is also involved in many volunteering activities. These include Abhiyaan Se Gyaan, in which volunteers collect waste paper and books from households and sell them to raise money for donating school / college books for the needy students.
